hello for those who have been using the newer versions of suse this is a stupid question but, in prior versions there used to be rc.config from where a user could select whether or not to run services such as ntop, ftp, apache and mysql. i know how to do it vanilla style but i would like to know how to do it properly with suse 9.1/9.2 all hints are appreciated, regards Matice

The 'rc.config' file has been replaced by the files in directory '/etc/sysconfig/'. However, deciding what services to start has been removed from those configuration files. Now, to activate ntop, we do 'chkconfig ntop on' (or off). The program, a perl script, has several options. You can also use 'insserv' (this one existed in previous SuSE versions) or yast, as Sunny told you.

Chapter 12 of the admin book (SuSE 9.1) explains all this. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

rc.config has ben divided into many separate files which are found in /etc/sysconfig. Use a basic editor (say like "vim") and then run SuSEconfig. -- 73 de Donn Washburn __" http://www.hal-pc.org/~n5xwb " Ham Callsign N5XWB / / __ __ __ __ __ __ __ 307 Savoy St. / /__ / / / \/ / / /_/ / \ \/ / Sugar Land, TX 77478 /_____/ /_/ /_/\__/ /_____/ /_/\_\ LL# 1.281.242.3256 Dump Microsoft Software - Stop virus email Email: n5xwb@hal-pc.org " http://counter.li.org " #279316
