A better way is to build RPM packages from the CPAN modules you need. It ain't difficult at all. For the reference, please see http://ftp.novell.com/pub/forge/library/SUSE%20Package%20Conventions/spc_spe...
Ooh! That's pretty...nice and simple, almost trivial instructions. Wish I'd found that a while ago. A related question, though: is there somewhere upstream to which those RPMs could be contributed? Some kind of a repository somewhere that would allow me to do the work once, and other people to benefit from it?

I would like to use vmware 5 on my suse 91. I have the following error when I try to make cloneconfig && make modules No rule to make target `cloneconfig'. Stop. I do not have any /linux under /usr/src/ all I have there is a directory named /packages Whare else can I have that directory? what can I do? if I have to install anything can I use Yast in irder to install what ever I need to install? I do not have the installation cds, so how can I tell yast to look for an online resource, is there any online resource I may use ? cheers.

Install the kernel source package, then run make cloneconfig && make modules as root. The kernel source package is on the CDs or DVD, or you can download it. James W

It should only be necessary to run make cloneconfig && make prepare-all which will run faster than make modules. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998

You need to instal kernel-sources package for your kernel version. Not the .src.rpm. sunny@suse:~> rpm -qa | grep kernel kernel-source-2.6.5-7.201 kernel-default-2.6.5-7.201 Cheers Sunny -- -- Svetoslav Milenov (Sunny)

It seems like you do not have the kernel sources installed, so install them :)
if I have to install anything can I use Yast in irder to install what ever I need to install?
Yes, you can. Go to "Install and remove software" in the Yast and select "Kernel Development" in "Selections"

You can use ftp.suse.com (or better use a mirror site closest to you - you can find it at http://www.novell.com/products/linuxprofessional/downloads/ftp/int_mirrors.h...) - just add it as an additional source in the "Change source of installation" (if you have never done that - search the list, this process has been described in several threads)
cheers.
Good luck, Dmitry

Have you installed your kernel sources? They must be installed for that to work. Regards. -- Alfredo J. Cole Grupo ACyC
