Any Xine experts?
I have all of the Xine pieces I can find off of packman. Would like to be able to play the video's off of the www.foxnews.com website and I'm very close. Using mozilla 1.6, clicking on a video will bring up Xine, but eventually it will show an error of: Xine-error: no Demux Plugin. Anyone have a clue as to what piece of this puzzle is needed? -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. Which video are you trying to watch? The Quicktime or the Windows media? You'll have to find and download copies of the windows media codecs and unfortunately, probably either re-compile xine and point it to where to find them, or find out where the package version expects to find windows codecs and place them there. You might have to do the same for the quicktime codecs too, if your packaged version doesn't come with QT support compiled in.

Was trying to watch the video that is currently on the main page.... and normally when you click on one, it will come up and ask whether you want RealPlayer or Windows Media.... (I have both but they have never worked with Foxnews) but since I loaded the U-L-B mozilla, it now brings up the Xine plugin and xine starts up.... looking like it is going to play, and then it gives the mentioned error..... -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. Yeh, I don't see how to get it called from the Foxnews javascript that is used to bring up videos... It's still bringing up xine. Guess it would take some setting of the various mime-types. -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. Hi, the problem that I have encountered and described previously has been solved: the problem in booting WinXP was a problem in GRUB settings: infact, There was a line missing in the file menu.lst that could provide access to hda1 where WinXP was installed. The set up was (lines added to existing file): title Windows XP root (hd0,0) chainloader +1 And, that's all, my bootloader was ok, with Linux, Windows XP, Failsafe and Floppy. So, it was not a matter of partitions, but something happened that modified booloader set up: indeed, also I had to modify the partitions in order to change mountopints and make the disks correctly accessible in Linux as described in my second mail to the list. Cheers LM

VLC lacks full SuSE support. Try the stuff from packman.links2linux.com

Between the recommended packman.links2linux.com site and Google I was able to find all of the missing dependencies. I discovered that my desktop lacked even more dependencies and spent a good deal longer hunting them down. vlc works nicely as far as I have tested it ... the time spent chasing dependencies has left little to actually try vlc except for some streaming audio! Note to extreme-newbies: Don't give up if a dependency fails when YaST loads it -- note the list of failed dependencies and run those, then return and try again. Sometimes more than one of the files you need to resolve dependencies may be buried in one. Sometimes the naming doesn't precisely direct you, e.g. liborbit is inside of orbit along with another dependency. Keep poking around, watch carefully for helpful hints, watch for the correct versions, e.g. everything for the same processor class such as i586 instead of i686 or something even more significant such as mistakenly downloading the alpha or sparc file because you were focused on the "libdvdcss" part and not the i586 vs sparc part of the long file name. Stay the course and post to the list -- there is lots of real valuable help here -- though some are more patient with newbies than others! -- Thanks! & 73, doc kd4e West Central Florida Drake, Heathkit, Kenwood, TenTec, Yaesu Radio Life: http://www.gospelcom.net/twr/ Linux-Incompatible hardware is defective! I have tried it on both my notebook and my desktop, both loaded with Suse 9 Pro and vlc.
