Difference between 8.2 Pro & 8.2 Pro upgrade
Can someone tell me the difference between Pro and Pro upgrade the main reason being can I do a full install from an upgrade CD or will I need an earlier version to up grade from. The install manuals are not a concern now I think I'm passed that stage of newbyism. -- Bill Gates? Who's He? Tim Robbins - Anti-Trust

Assuming 8.2 is the same as 8.1 (I haven't bought 8.2 yet)... No difference in the CDs/DVDs. The Pro version has only one manual (instead of about 3), and less installation support. Otherwise, they're identical. -- David Smith Work Email: Dave.Smith@st.com STMicroelectronics Home Email: David.Smith@ds-electronics.co.uk Bristol, England GPG Key: 0xF13192F2
The difference in the past is the upgrade did not have the manuals in the package. it was the full pro version minus them. you could do a clean install with the disks. jack At 02:52 PM 4/16/2003 +0000, David Chapman wrote:

The difference is solely in the amount of dead tree you get with it - the CDs and DVDs are identical, so yes, you can do a fresh install from the upgrade. -- James Ogley, Webmaster, Rubber Turnip james@rubberturnip.org.uk http://www.rubberturnip.org.uk Jabber: riggwelter@myjabber.net Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.1). There were no differences between Pro and Pro Update in 8.1. Since 8.2 also ships the same number of CDs/DVDs in both Pro and Pro Update, I do not expect there to be any difference here either. 8.1 Pro Update made a full install from scratch just fine, so I expect 8.2 Pro Update to do the same. Pro Update comes with fewer printed manuals - but that is not a problem to you. Best regards :o) Johnny :o)
David, I did a fresh install using the upgrade CDs. No problem. Damian Johnny Ernst Nielsen wrote:

Having looked at the answers so far and the fact this comes up every release I think it needs emphasising for the archives that the Update only differs in the reduced number of manuals. There is absolutely no difference in the cd/dvd set, so not only can you do a fresh install, but all other software and source is also present. This is AFAIK a fixed policy of SuSE's, you're paying less for the update because they don't have the expense of the manuals, but the Update *is* the Pro edition, not any kind of cut-down version of same. Best to all Fergus
