That was a very long time and that eventually became the _SuSE_Linux_and_Netfinity_Server_Integration_Guide_ book. I can't find any old copies of the PDF but if I do I'll send it to you. -- -ckm

That will be changed today, we just heard that the pre-orders are finally shipping. So, even with the distribution company new releases still make it to the retail stores before the pre-orders ship... -- -ckm
Hi guys.. .is there any way that allow me to Pre-Install SuSE (what ever the version is) on a Server or on a PC ? I mean... like the Servers, PC's or notebook''s that came with other OS Pre installed and the only thing that it's need to be done it's just finish the configuration of the Box. Thanks in advance. bye --ed
I have used the dd utility to clone disks. That worked fine and if the IP address was gotten via DHCP in theory each box could boot on the network w/o problem. Wouldn't even have to go through the setup stuff that Windows does. Guess you could have a script that ran at firt boot then removed itself that would update the hostname. Don't think much else would need to be changed. Robert On Mon, 22 Apr 2002, Linux - User wrote:

I haven't tried that, but you might be able to also use some lines in /etc/init.d/boot "# look for stuff to do for first bootup" which is what the yast2 installer uses if it has to reboot the system during installation, after CD #1 is done (which is true if the installed kernel is different from the install-kernel, e.g. on SMP machines), to finish what it started. This *should* bring you right into the yast2 installation screens for setting up X and network, etc. So when the user powers the machine on for the first time they can do their local adjustments for X and their network settings. Michael PS: Maybe it's the section in /etc/init.d/boot following the one I mentioned, called "# Let YaST2 finish its installation". In any case, I mention that file only so that you can see what the system does, to trigger that behavior you simply have to create a file (with "touch") /var/adm/setup/setup.newinst and/or /usr/lib/YaST/.configured2 and/or /var/lib/YaST2/runme_at_boot.
Let me pose another question? I have not done homework on this, but what about something like kickstart? Look at Christoph Doebeck's Linux Soup http://www.linuxsoup.com/docmgr.php?SEC=63 And take a look at the kickstart presentation (in his Linux for the enterprise presentation). -- Jerry Feldman Portfolio Partner Engineering 508-467-4315 http://www.testdrive.compaq.com/linux/ Compaq Computer Corp. 200 Forest Street MRO1-3/F1 Marlboro, Ma. 01752
This is the one that was done by Justin Davies and others - I've a feeling that this replaced the previous one done by Lenz, but I don't know the history. http://publib-b.boulder.ibm.com/Redbooks.nsf/RedbookAbstracts/sg245863.html On Fri, 19 Apr 2002, Linux - User wrote:
