I have been running SuSe 9.0 on a system with a KK266 Plus M/B and an Athlon 1.4MHz processor. The M/B recently died and I bought a Shuttle AN35N Ultra/ Athlon 2800XP bundle to replace the M/B and processor. After building the new system (using the hard disk with the Athlon/KK266Plus version of SuSe 9.0), Linux boots OK. I can use USB 1 devices, but can't use USB 2.0 devices. When I attempt to mount a USB 2.0 SanDisk storage device, I get a window attempting to open /dev/sda1 to /media/sda1. After a long wait (about 2 minutes), I get an error message (/dev/sda1:input/output error. Mount: /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device). Can anyone offer advice for getting USB 2.0 to work? Thanks.

Search the list archives (best via google). There was mention recently of a problem with the order the modules for usb1 and usb2 were loaded on boot and a solution. I cannot recall if it was for 9.0 or 9.1, though. Thanks for the response. I found the report you mentioned in the support DB. I followed those instructions (put 'ehci-hcd' in "MODULES_LOADED_ON_BOOT"). Still can't open USB 2.0 device (SanDisk flash reader). Cant find any other USB 2.0 reports in support DB. I can't find any LINUX drivers an the SanDisk web site. Is there a source for LINUX drivers for specific devices? Thanks. On Tuesday 22 June 2004 9:32 pm, Patrick Shanahan wrote:

examine /var/log/messages for error messages when you have tried to access the usb2 flash-reader. It *should* present itself as a disk drive and not require drivers. It *is* formatted ?? What does /etc/fstab show for it? -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

Patrick, Thanks for the help. It turned out to be a corrupted file system on the SD Card. I re-formatted the card (under windows) and all is working. The interesting thing is that Windows didn't balk at the corrupted file system. John

gud luk,
I like Peter's solution to fixing windows problems. Lady, "I 've got this problem with WIndows". Peter, "Yes, you've got a problem". Pete exits stage left, sharpish. Gone are the evening phone calls from him cussing about the Windows problems he's been fixing during the day. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ....
