I cannot get sound to work with KDE 2.2. All other applications (like Real Audio) work fine and when setting the sound card with YAST2 the test works fine but nothing with KDE 2.2. Does anyone have sound working with KDE 2.2? Avi -- Avi Schwartz avi@CFFtechnologies.com "I have to share the credit. Yes... but I installed the KDE2.2. rpm's from the kde.org site. Didn't have any particular problems. I assume you have gone into the control center and run the test there.... How about playing a .wav file (or anything) from a konsole session? -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ + Bruce S. This is wild. I went to the Sound section in CC, then to Sound Server and
Sound I/O. I started trying different options but then decided to click on
the Use Defaults. A popup asked me if I want to restart the sound server
and suddenly sound started working in KDE. Now I wonder if it will still
work if I restart KDE. This is the next thing I will test. I could swear
I did not modify any Sound Server settings after installing KDE 2.2 but I
have to wonder if there was some settings left over from the KDE 2.1
installation.
Now I am happy.
Thanks Bruce!

I sort of have it working. I d/l and installed the Kde2.2 from kde.org. When kde starts all the sounds work fine. However if I try to use xmms or mpg123 they wait for about a minute or so and then they start playing. If I do a grep for artsd and kill that process then both the sounds in kde work fine and xmms and mpg123 play without problems. The only thing is after I have killed artsd the sounds in kde ie closing windows etc, have a small clicking sound when the sound has finished playing. The kde sound player has not worked at all for me nor the video player. They both lock with no responce. BTW this is with Suse 7.1 Glenn
"When kde starts all the sounds work fine. However if I try to use xmms or mpg123 they wait for about a minute or so and then they start playing." This is because it takes 60 seconds for the artsd to start sleeping after not being used. You can change this setting in kde to 5 seconds if you want. Or just use the artsd plugin for xmms. -----Original Message----- From: Glenn [mailto:glenn_ped@dingoblue.net.au] Sent: Thursday, 23 August 2001 9:43 PM To: Avi Schwartz; Suse Linux Mailing List Subject: Re: [SLE] KDE2.2 and sound On Thursday 23 August 2001 04:06 am, Avi Schwartz wrote:

Thanks! I changed in Control Centre-Sound server-Auto suspend if idle to 2 secs and mpg123 works fine as well as xmms now. I dont notice the 2 sec delay so I am very happy with kde 2.2 now:) Glenn
