EACCESS (Permission denied) with beagled in 9.3
Hi, I am trying to get beagle running on a 9.3 installation upgraded from 9.2. The session dbus is running, /dev/inotify exists, when I start "beagled --debug --fg" I get errors: ... [many lines omitted] INFO: Starting Evolution mail backend DEBUG: D-BUS registered obj=Beagle.Daemon.WebHistoryQueryable.WebHistoryQueryable+WebHistoryIndexerImpl path=/com/novell/Beagle/WebHistoryIndexer owner=(none) INFO: Starting launcher backend INFO: Scanning Launchers ioctl: Permission denied Unhandled Exception: System.Exception: Attempt to watch /opt/gnome/share/applications failed! in <0x00133> Beagle.Util.Inotify:Watch (string,Beagle.Util.Inotify/EventType,Beagle.Util.Inotify/EventType) in <0x0000f> Beagle.Util.Inotify:Watch (string,Beagle.Util.Inotify/EventType) in <0x00167> Beagle.Daemon.LauncherQueryable.LauncherQueryable:Watch (string) in <0x00158> Beagle.Daemon.LauncherQueryable.LauncherQueryable:Start () in <0x00016> Beagle.Daemon.Queryable:Start () in <0x0012d> Beagle.Daemon.QueryDriver:Start () in <0x00a1e> Beagle.Daemon.BeagleDaemon:Main (string[]) If I see it correctly, I get a "Attempt to watch DIR failed" for all directories beagled tries to watch. Any ideas? Thanks, Guido -- Imperia AG, Development Leyboldstr. 10 - D-50354 Hürth - http://www.imperia.net/

Look at this page and search for ioctl:

I have seen that page but my error is EACCES (Permission denied) not EFAULT (Bad address). Is there any way to find out which version of the inotify patch I am using? A "uname -a" says: Linux hostname 2.6.11.4-20a-default #1 Wed Mar 23 21:52:37 UTC 2005 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux That is the vanilla kernel of SuSE 9.3. This says which beagle version that works with different inotify patches: http://www.beaglewiki.org/index.php/inotify-Enabled%20Linux%20Kernel - Jostein

I have read all installation information in the Beagle Wiki. But I have installed Beagle from the SuSE rpm, I have installed the default kernel via yast (also the default Kernel for 9.3) and the SuSE docs don't say that I have to compile a new kernel for getting Beagle running. The filesystem that the error occurs on is a ReiserFS mounted with options "rw,acl,user_xattr". I am still clueless.
