Ok, i've downloaded knapster but i've no idea how a napster server works and cannot be able to configure my client (specially user and password). Need i to registrer an user before use it in any site??... I'm a bit lost, if anyone could give me a "quick-start" i'll be very glad. Thank you :) -- Francisco M. Marzoa Alonso Nuevo Mundo - Dpto. First you need to change the default server setting under options|preferences|connections to server.napster.com. Under the User tab just enter in a user name and password that you want to use and an email address (given Metallica's latest moves you might not want to use an easily traced address here, I don't think it really matters) and then check the 'Logon as new user' button. Hit 'OK' and then goto Connect and hit Logon. That should do it. Every time after that you just Logon an all your information should be saved by the program. Under the preferences button you might want to go ahead and specigy where your MP3s should be downloaded to and what MP3 player to use, etc. but this stuff isn't necessary to get it running. BTW, with the latest version of knapster I haven't been able to get to read my MP3 directory - no big deal though. Just forget knapster. In its current state it works by sheer accident, if it
works at all. The author of knapster can't have much experience in writing
multithreaded C++ apps judging from the code , as it has severe design
problems. BTW, I don't have that experience either, but my best friend,
who has 10 years experience in that area, told me so when I told him of my
problems getting that code to compile.
Use gnapster. It works (well, mostly :) and will be in our next
distribution.

Why do you say that? I use the knapster-0.10-1.i386.rpm and it works as well as the official windoze version. I have about 3,600 song titles on my box to base that recommendation on.

Thanks. Just for grins, I decided to try knapster. It does seem to work very well with Suse 6.3. I'm pleasantly surprised (it's my first experience with mp3 format) with the quality of the sound. Downloads will be awfully slow on my 54k modem connection though. On Sun, 07 May 2000, Ken Archer wrote:
