Sunday afternoon question (Extra blank page)
Hello everyone, How do I get rid of that extra blank page when I print something? Believe me, I've looked everywhere on the printer section on YaST (I have "ending banner" set to none) but I can't find it. I know it may be in front of me but I really don't see it :( Thanks, Jorge

I guess you should start by telling us what SuSE version you are using, what printer, and what you are using, cups or whatever. - -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFDUqcntTMYHG2NR9URAricAJ0ZLocZh/eLIZo95ISBa1RqR1Qa8QCcCJMz VDZUfMwpH1OBLKtypYjUvbE= =dVE4 -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----

I'm running SUSE 9 and SUSE 10 and on both I receive the extra blank paper whenever I print something. I just configured my printer (HP LaserJet 4 Plus) using YaST so I'm using Cups (nothing special). I can't believe I'm the only one with this problem :( Jorge

Sure you don't have some option set on the printer that would be doing this?? I have a hp4000 here that's been running under Linux for 6 years and I've never had that problem. I'm guessing it is a setting on the printer.

And which cups ppd file did you choose, LaserJet_4xxxxxxx, when you configured your printer? -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2

I'm going to check what Bruce suggested (maybe it's a setting on the printer). The thing is that I don't remember this happening while printing on Windoze. That's really the reason I always thought that it was something on my configuration...but I'll give it a try (checking the printer itself) I chose LaserJet_4_Plus-ljet4.pdd.gz manually because the one YaST selected for my HP LaserJet 4 Plus on SUSE 10 didn't work..whereas YaST from SUSE 9 used to select LaserJet_4_Plus-ljet4.pdd.gz that works. I changed it SUSE 10 and it works great. After this, I think I can wipe out my SUSE 10 test partition and install it full-blown and say goodbye to SUSE 9. Thanks, Jorge

A good check but I would presume that the operating system would *not* change a setting *in* the printer, itself. Jorge, It will work. You have got a separator sheet configured somewhere. I have the exact same setup cups/HP Laserjet 4 and I don't get a separator sheet. Thanks David for providing your conf file. I compared it to mine and they are both exactly the same. I'm checking the printer itself to see if there's a setting somewhere. Jorge
Hi Jorge et al.. I use a HP lj 5L. If you are printing using Abiword, when the print window comes up click on "configure" and see if "Duplex" is marked. If so, turn it off, then the extra paper will stop. BTW, this drove me crazy before I found this. Hope this helps, JIM On Monday 17 October 2005 00:30, Jorge Fábregas wrote:

Strange it seems that somehow you get an unwanted form-feed character at the end. I just printed out your mail on my HP Photosmart 7350, but had no extra blank page at the end. Perhaps you could check for any embedded form feed character in the text. Roy

He should also check how the page size is set in CUPS as well as the banner settings.
Jorge Probably your page size is A4 insted of Letter. A4 is lager than letter. This is for Suse 9.x and 10. I live in Mexico and thats happens always on first install (with mandrake too). Change your filter settings on cups with yast. On Sunday 16 October 2005 13:35, Jorge Fábregas wrote:
