I'm running SuSE 8.1, and although it's old I'm stuck for now. I have several questions on using YaST. I'ld be happy if someone could just point me to some decent documentation, user's guide or otherwise. Otherwise:
<snip>
3. Is it possible to use YaST or YOU to update to a new major release of packages? For instance, I'm still at KDE 3.0.1 which came with 8.1. Can YOU help me update to 3.2.2? I see that 3.2.2 is on the SuSE site, but as in question 3, I can't see it there in YOU.
3.1 In "YaST/Software" it is possible to specify additional source media for package installation. 3.2 SuSE supplies "supplementary" KDE packages for certain current/prior releases on SuSE' ftp server (e.g. server=ftp.suse.com [or nearest mirror], dir=pub/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_8.1/yast-source) 3.3 Check the archive of this list or the SDB for more information (try searching for "installation source")
4. Similarly, can I use YOU to get packages that aren't on my machine at all. I want to install GTK2 (I'm currently running GTK 1.2). When I search for it in YaST, it appears with a grey, solid-box icon and it won't let me select it or install it.
<snip> 4.1 See my answer to 3 above 4.2 Try adding all "pub/suse/.../yast-source" directories for your release hth -- Regards, Sylvanus ----- If you are part of a society that votes, then do so.
