Hello list got a sony vaio PCG-srx41P with Lucent/IEEE wifi card (orinoco chipset) that worked properly in suse 8.2 now i have 9.1 with 2.6.5-7.108-default kernel, yast2-2.9.60-5, yast2-network-2.9.57-0.2 and no acpi. I first tried to load the orinoco_cs modules, as Yast offered me as default. as iwconfig showed me nothing, i tried, from Yast, to load the prism2_cs modules. after letting yast save the configuration, i did lsmod. no prims2_cs there. to see all changes i tried with yast, I kept kwifimanager open. allthough i set with yast to use channel 6 and I gave the wifi the AP IP address, kwifi continued to show me channel 10 and no AP. so I configured the card the manual way. whoop, i have wifi again. clearly , my suse seemed not to care what I configure with yast. so I straced it and found nice stuff: 18517 stat64("/etc/sysconfig/network/scripts/config", 0xbfffea50) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) 18532 stat64("/etc/sysconfig/network/scripts/wireless", 0xbfffe920) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) 18532 stat64("/etc/sysconfig/network/scripts/ifcfg-lo", 0xbfffe920) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) of course there is No such file or directory where yast is trying to write, because what he looks for is in /etc/sysconfig/network/. i tried then configuring the wired network. same problems. i had to manually configure it all. My question is: why is yast writing in the wrong place?? my wifi interface is eth1. how do i make changes permanent (writing to ifcfg-wlan0 helps with nothing)? thanks, Josephine
