[opensuse] Has anyone yet recieved thier boxed OpenSuse?
I'm asking because I was having a discussion about various linux versions w/ someone from the "Windows World" who was giving me a lot of static because "You can't watch a DVD right out of the box like you can w/ Windows" And proceeded down that path til it was more than obvious; I was wasting my time. However I ordered the boxed set, and just got the word that it should be here early next week, and I don't remember anyone saying that the "out of the box" music and DVDs, which "just play".. So I thought I'd check w/ you warriors and wizards, as either, one ( at least !) of you knows the answer. ;- D TIA, etc... etc... -- j -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You cannot watch a normal region encrypted DVD movie "out of the box" with Windows. Windows Media Player needs codecs before it can play DVDs. Usually, though, some DVD player is bundled, providing the codecs needed so even WMP can play.

If by "out of the box" you mean without downloading any extra software, I don't believe so. But it is at least as easy as Windows, for which VLC is available. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The boxed editions of openSUSE 11.0 will not play normal encrypted movie
DVDs out of the box.
You can, however, use a 1-Click Install to allow your system to play
these movies:

Not really true: the software to watch videos comes bundled with the DVD reader, not with windows. So, once you install the reader and its drivers and software, then yes, you can watch videos in windows, not before. Of course, if you buy the box ready installed you don't have to do anything. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
