See file:/usr/share/doc/packages/apt/examples/configure-index and http://laiskiainen.org/apt/tricks/ Look for 'Debugging apt behavior' run apt e.g. with apt -o Debug::pkgAcquire=1 upgrade

Not that I claim to understand it all, but I see no *other* indication of what the problem is with 'Debug::pkgAcquire', 'Debug::Acquire::Ftp' or 'Debug::pkgProblemResolver'. Still get the same error listed above. note: I have and can install small numbers of selected packages. I just, as a trial, installed tuxpaint, tuxracer and tuxkart successfully. Should I try '--fix-broken', even though 'check' shows no problems? -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos
