[opensuse] articles of this newsgroup are not grouped in threads
Hi folks, I'm using Pan to follow a number of newsgroups. In all other newsgroups but "gmane.linux.suse.general" all articles are grouped into corresponding threads. When I select "gmane.linux.suse.general" every single article of each thread is listed separately. Thus usually I have a long list of "Re:" items. What's the trouble with this newsgroup? Why it is so special to Pan? Thanks. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Try another nntp reader, like thunderbird. Maybe they don't create the appropriate "References:" header. -- Cheers/Saludos Carlos E. R. (12.3 Dartmouth test at Minas-Anor -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Odd. I'm reading the same way you are, only with Gnus. Threading works precisely like it does in every other newsgroup. Have you tried unsubscribing from gmane.linux.suse.general and then resubscribing? Perhaps it's some strange per-newsgroup setting internal to Pan that's causing the issue? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Actually I've noticed that too when using Thunderbird to read the opensuse list (inconsistent threading, and a lot of times it's just one level of threading implying that the newsreader is just going by Re: in the subject instead of the References: header) When I use gmail to read the list (normally what I do) threading is fine (gmail doesn't have nested threading though), but when I reply the default To: is to the poster, not the list. I know that's because the opensuse daemon doesn't add the Reply-To: header (just has List-Post:) I can't figure out the threading issue but I haven't looked at it much...... there's Reference: headers but maybe it's in the wrong spot per some RFC and that's what is throwing Pan/Thunderbird off, I dunno Cheers, Scott -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I'm happy with Thunderbird's threading. It does a good job. That being said, there are many mail tools that break threading. A friend in Australia uses Lotus Notes and that always looses the "In-Reply-To" header and we're off on a new thread. I also get 'new threads' when I save or delete messages and so loose the linkages in my INBOX. But I have no problems with deeply nested threads, least of all on this list! I use "View -> Sort By -> Threaded" rather than "View -> Threads". -- A little inaccuracy can save tons of explanation. -- Saki -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks.
The most mysterious thing is that the only one thread that I'm viewing right now normally is this one, created by me. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I looked at the headers and what is missing in your messages is In-reply-to: header item. Besides that I found a bug in Claws Mail that is sorting messages in a wrong column, although header is correct. This is text with excerpts from headers: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8HNJIS5xTiDUzBjLUo3UGxnUHM/edit Due to Message-ID strings Google sorted it as application, so you have to download file to see the text. -- Regards, Rajko. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
