Installing Win XP alogn with an existant SusE 8 Installation
Hi, A friend of mine asked me to install Win XP Pro, to coexist along with his SUSE 8, installation I've been out the Linux world for a while, so I can't remember exactly what the best procedure is in that case I know SUSE uses Grub and there I can configure both OSes but i can't remember the name of the software used to re-partition the HDD so it becomes dual boot. thank you, Rick Fitzgerald
You can use parted to resize your current partition to make room for xp then you have to install xp then boot off the suse cd and some how reinstall grub on the MBR that windows wrote over. It is a million times eaiser to do it the other way windows first then liuux. But the best solution of all is no windows =) Armando Rick Fitzgerald wrote:

I have successfully installed WinME after SuSE 9.0 (on a partition reserved for the purpose). But I heard that this procedure does not work with Windows XP, since XP takes over and wipe out the entire disk. Is it a real risk of only just FUD? Janus -- Roskilde University, Denmark. It overwrites the boot sector, but that can be put back... as mentioned above... I'm assuming XP pro... Home edition has lots of quirks, I make no comment there... Jerry

I have been told numerous time by the Windows Addict that I work with that you can get windows to partition a HD and install to one of those partitions. I've never seen this in action, but I have seen his system boot three Windows versions from one HD. Mike
