[opensuse] Curiosity: is it possible to have a secondary vido card just for movies?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I'm just curious. Is it possible to have a secondary video card, so that the output of xine or vlc or mplayer goes only there, while we can continue working as usual on the main display? - -- Cheers Carlos E. R. I've never done it, but the simplest solution is to divide the Xorg display into two screens. Each screen can be set to use a specific "device" (video card). Brandon Vincent -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes. I've seen a number of web sites describing how to, but when I've tried it I've always toasted my C config into uselessness. Perhaps having a card that different from the one on the mobo has something to do with it. I have 'cards just the same as each other' but they won't fir on the mobos I have. -- /"\ \ / ASCII Ribbon Campaign X Against HTML Mail / \ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

My 2nd display *IS* my flatpanel TV on the wall. With the right video card you don't need a 2nd one... depends on what you do on the first one at the same time. How easy it is to configure on linux: dunno. But an Nvidia 590 can handle 3 screens w/o too much difficulty. My TV screen is where I watch media. But I use windows to control my desktop (and by extension -- my multimedia). If I configure the sound correctly I can use some other sound app (music, game) on 1st screen w/headphones and let the movies playing on the 'TV' play their sound through the "stereo" (a home theater decoding system that plays the sound (up to 7.1) while passing the video through to the screen. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
