mine is an hp scanner: /etc/sane.d/hp.conf should read /dev/usbscanner option connect-device Then chmod 666 /dev/usbscanner That should do it. Assuming that the usb modules are loaded...they typically are in SuSE. Hope it helps, Alvaro Novo SuSE 7.1 Pro -=- Kernel 2.4.7-4GB -=- KDE 2.2.1 2:06pm up 1:48, 4 users, load average: 0.35, 0.17, 0.13

Are you the standard SuSE kernel ? If so, try, as root modprobe scanner Then do a scan, in my case I have an epson scanner, so I can do something like: scanimage -d epson:/dev/usbscanner >foo.pbm Theoretically the modules ahould be auto-loaded, but I have noticed the kernel module loader does not always load some modules when it should. If you have rolled your own kernel, you obviously have to set the usb options as required, plus the "hot-swappable" option if you have a very new Suse kernel. -- Regards Cliff
I just found out that my HP 4200c isnt directly supported by sane but there is a patch available. perhaps this is my problem will investigate this avenue. dids
