My environment: Toshiba Tecra 8000; 256mb RAM; 38% hd free; SuSE 7.3 pro (clean install). Everytime, after downloading packages, my system freezes when I click on next to install the packages and a hard reboot is required. This is my first, second and third attempts to do an initial update to my system. Any suggestions would be welcomed! Thank You, Anthony
How are you running YaST2? If your running the X version, you should be able to run it from a console window and try the basic character based version. I used to find the running YaST2 inside X was sometimes unstable due to graphics problems, but the console version never failed. Adam On Wed, 7 Nov 2001, Anthony W.Marino wrote:

Might be same (bug?) we see around here on at least three machines with SuSE 7.3 on them: ftp of large files (200-700MB), the system will freeze up completely after anywhere between 100-180Mb. CAD, CA+F1-7 don't even work. Never happended with SuSE prior to < 7.3. So I'd say 7.3 is broken good. Add to that that attempting to install,. say Windows NT in the suplied implementation of VMWare will also hang the machine in the same way, and I'd say 7.3 is looking to be quite unusable to me. Workaround: transfer large files while in init 3 mode. I can also use scp on the same large files without problems, so I guess SuSE doesn't like our 100mbit throughput.
