on 9.1 howto stop SuSEconfig from running every bootup
What file has the commands that need to be removed to stop SuSEconfig from running evey time the system boots up? Here is what it looks like: coldplug scanning input: ****done scanning pci: .**.*..Wdone scanning usb: .*.done . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .done At this point it appears the system attempts to start the xserver to finish a repair/update installation and hangs, if I use ctrl-alt-backspace, the system resumes and the SuSEconfig tool runs, afterwards the system returns to normal and the boot process finishes ok and everything seems to work ok. What file has the commands that need to be removed to stop SuSEconfig from running evey time the system boots up? thanks in advance joe

Do you have the files /var/lib/YaST2/runme_at_boot or /var/lib/YaST2/run_suseconfig ?

Happened to me, too. Once you get up and running, use YAST > Run Level Editor > disable coldplug

thanks in advance

when I disable this it is not any faster. I get some kind of countdown of recognized devices on startup and my mouse won't work. I think there should be a guide to these services in the admin manual. not sure though. Thom Nuzum

The file "/etc/init.d/rc" contains this code at the end: test -e /etc/issue-SuSE-first-run && { cat /etc/issue-SuSE-first-run > $REDIRECT rm -f /etc/issue-SuSE-first-run 2>/dev/null } But that is not the one you are looking for; instead, file "/etc/init.d/boot" has: # # Let YaST2 finish its installation, if you installed with YaST2 # if test -f /var/lib/YaST2/runme_at_boot ; then HOSTTYPE=$(uname -m) rc_splash "YaST" exec 0<> $REDIRECT 1>&0 2>&0 # if yast2 failed, this ensures proper system setup touch /var/lib/YaST2/run_suseconfig if test -x /usr/lib/YaST2/bin/YaST2.firstboot; then /usr/lib/YaST2/bin/YaST2.firstboot else # oops, yast2 not installed rm -f /var/lib/YaST2/runme_at_boot fi fi # run SuSEconfig (with args) if needed if test -f /var/lib/YaST2/run_suseconfig ; then /sbin/SuSEconfig `cat /var/lib/YaST2/run_suseconfig` rm -f /var/lib/YaST2/run_suseconfig fi Thus, the flags are "/var/lib/YaST2/runme_at_boot" and "/var/lib/YaST2/run_suseconfig". -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
