[SLE] kernel source files and vmware
<sigh> ... apparently, my search skills are not great, because I thought for sure that there was a list discussion of what one has to do to "prepare the kernel source files" so that vmware workstation will install. But, I can't find the thread, and a google just returned tons of pages that were not what I am looking for. Am I mis-remembering? Is there not some command that has to be executed against the kernel source files so that vmware workstation will install correctly in Suse 10/10.1 ? Go to the source /usr/src/linux and issue the command 'make cloneconfig && make modules_prepare' -- Anders Norrbring Norrbring Consulting -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

Try this in Google: site:lists.suse.com prepare all vmware [SLE] 2005 It will give you many hits with the solution. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998 -- Check the headers for your unsubscription address For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the archives at http://lists.suse.com Please read the FAQs: suse-linux-e-faq@suse.com

From my own experience, you may also need to download the latest vmware-any-any-update???.tar.gz file from http://ftp.cvut.cz/vmware/
Then install by typing tar -xzf vmware-any-any-update???.tar.gz within the terminal at the location where the file was downloaded. After the file has been extracted, change to the /vmware-any-any-update??? directory and run the runme.pl script. Hope this helps.
