[opensuse] Has zypper lost its way?
I don't now if this belongs here or in Factory, but...... I have the DESKTOP kernel 3.13.x (from K:/stable/standard/) and have had since I installed 13.1. A short time ago I did the "zypper trick" and got this output: linux-njij:~ # zypper up Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... The following 28 package updates will NOT be installed: (pruned to save space) The following 3 NEW packages are going to be installed: kernel-default-devel-3.13.2-1.1.g97cc2ff kernel-desktop-3.11.10-7.1 kernel-devel-3.13.2-1.1.g97cc2ff 3 new packages to install. Overall download size: 50.9 MiB. After the operation, additional 211.0 MiB will be used. Continue? [y/n/? shows all options] (y): n Now, there are 2 things in the above: 1) I do not have DEFAULT kernel installed, and 2) I do not have the 3.11 kernel installed - nor is it listed in YaST. The K:/s/s repository has a priority level of 95 (and Allow Vendor Change is not selected) and this repo does NOT have the 3.11 kernel listed - so is where zypper trying to install 3.11 from? Is zypper having a breakdown and needs a holiday? :-) BC -- A civilisation is judged by how it treats the most vulnerable. From the update channel.
You have kernel-default , which will pull in kernel-default-devel for instance, which are just the development headers. kernel-desktop-3.11.10-7.1 is from the update channel. Sorry, boss, but I do *not* have kernel-default :-) . A few minutes ago I went into YaST this time and allowed YaST to do its magic (Upgrade Packages if New Ones etc) and this is the result: http://susepaste.org/92176861 I then went back to zypper and did it's tango and this is what came up: linux-njij:~ # zypper up Loading repository data... Thanks Patrick. Interesting that it is in Tumbleweed but not where it ought to be. Someone been fooling around with scripts which send files scurrying to their correct pigeon holes? What's interesting about it? It's the way openSUSE has worked since, ah, forever. New packages do not get built for the current release unless a severe security bug has been found. As with all such dependency solving issues: please open a bug report in bugzilla and attach a solver testcase (i.e. use zypper's --debug-solver option).
