Re: [SLE] fsck failed. Please repair manually and rebootI (Solved)
Hello, I would like all who responded and helped me solve my problem.
The electricity was cut off today while my SuSE8.1 (KDE3.1) system was up and running. The power has since been restored but I can't get my filesystems up and running. (
The error message goes something like this... fsck failed. Please repair manually and reboot. The root system is currently mounted read only. To remount it read-write do mount -n -o remount, rw/
I got my hard drive back on line by doing a fsck /dev/hda7 As I also lost access I my cdrom, I had to short and reset the CMOS in order to able to use it again. Everything is work ok again. You will need to boot from SuSE CD-ROM (1or 2) and select the rescue system.
See page 287 of SuSE 8.1 admin guide.
When you run the rescue system, it will install a MINIMAL linux system in ram, and enable you to run fsck on the unmounted filesystems of your hard drive.
Hopefully, it will check and repair the partitions.
Page 290 of the 8.1 admin guide tells more about e2fsck.
What type of FS's have set up?
I have only repaired ext2 FS's under SuSE 6.1.
Same principal under 8.1 I guess.
