That's exactly the point. I ran my updates last week and ran into the same problem. Even more: On a machine, I couldn't even boot. I think, there might be a bug in the kernel or in YOU. I had reinstalled the original kernels from CD, make depmod -a and all is ok again. I wouldn't do an online update of the kernel for many time.
TIA
Tim
Bye Al

Well i solved it by doing this: ln -s /lib/modules/2.6.5-7.75-default/modules.dep /lib/modules/2.6.4-54.5-default/modules.dep It has solved the appearance of the error messages (for two days now) and nothing seems to have broken. Don't know if this is the "right" way of doing things but it has worked Tim

It works because the two kernels seem to have the same dependencies it would be better to run depmod -a inorder to create modules.dep Michel

I already have a modules.dep in the updated kernel /lib/modules/2.6.xxxx folder. But not a modules.dep in the older version number folder (actually i did not have the older version folder) Tim .

OK, I see, are you sure that you have changed all the references and links to the old kernel in /boot/grub/menu/lst or in lilo.conf and in this last case that you've run /sbin/lilo ? Didn't you forget to run mkinitrd ? Michel.

The right way is to reboot. You haven't done that after upgrading your kernel so you're still running the old one
