Confirmed!
The following may have something to do with it:
strace gs -sDEVICE=bbox anat1.cropped.eps
-> ....
open("/usr/share/ghostscript/fonts/Fontmap", O_RDONLY) = -1 ENOENT
(No such file or directory)
read(3, "OINTS known or\nsystemdict /DEVIC"..., 4096) = 4096
--- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) ---
+++ killed by SIGSEGV +++
locate Fontmap | grep gho
/usr/share/ghostscript/5.50/Fontmap
(compare /usr/share/ghostscript/fonts/Fontmap from strace).
Even if this mismatch between where gs looks for Fontmap, and
where Fontmap is actually installed, is the reason, I still
think it shouldn't segfault.

I tried to cp the Fontmap to the ../fonts directory -> same strace output I tried to move the fonts directory aside and make a link from fonts to 5.50 -> same strace output.
