Encrypt passwords = yes in smb.conf? Also upgrade your Samba via ftp.suse.com and if you are there do the kernel as well.....not that the kernel will change Samba, it is just that if you will be running 2.4, do it on a more recent version that SuSE has released and is more stable.....
