Icons scattered all over desktop in KDE2.1?
Hello Linux folkz, I installed KDE2.1 and have noticed that it can't keep desktop icons in place. If I arrange them in the certain order KDE scatters the all over the desktop upon the next login. Could somebody tell me please how to fix icon position on KDE2.1 desktop ? Thank you in advance. Alex -- MS Windows users should be covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act
what i do to get them to stay is the following: go to K | Preferences | Look & Feel | Desktop on the first tab (Desktop) i uncheck "align icons vertically on desktop". on the KDE-list, they said that should be enough. now, whenever i put a new icon on my desktop, or when i rearange them, i always click on the desktop with button-3 and then select "Line up icons" from the pop-up menu. that way, they get lined up, and they stick! just got 7.1 installed and setup on my home system. Whilst it was starting up my son was stabbing the keyboard typing random characters. When KDM started it apeared for a moment and then returned to text mode. I've gone through XFree86 setups, yast and sax but can''t get it back. If I manually run KDM it just does the same thing, typing startx just gives me a blank desktop with a mouse pointer, I can't see any errors to sugest what is wrong and short of a reinstall I'm not sure what to do. Not much of a linux guru you see. Any ideas? Thanks Matt
Run YaST and select System Administration then Graphical Login On Friday 09 March 2001 05:48, you wrote:

If only it was that simple, (that was the first thing I did) basically KDM has broken, I can get XDM to work but I can't get any window managers to come up. On Friday 09 March 2001 11:52, Jerry Kreps wrote:

Try typing at the command: startx --gnome or startx --kde ~Robert K Davies
