I have tried ctrl+alt+x, ctrl+alt+backspace, and killall X as a root user under a virtual console and neither kill X, it just starts up again. I need to kill it to install my Nvidia drivers Does anybody know how to kill it George x

telinit 3, then telinit 5 to start again or "rcxdm stop" and "rcxdm start" respectively
