HAL and mounting external USB hard disks
Hi, I'm having some real problems with HAL. A user wants to mount their external usb hard disk under /media/disk _not_ /media/usbdisk as done automatically by HAL. Previously I've been able to specify the mount point of IDE optical disk drives using the instructions at: http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2005/05/dkukawka_hal_mountpoints.html Here it also suggests a method for specifying the path for USB devices, by matching the info.vendor and info.product information for the specified device (e.g. TOSHIBA, 2349023). However, try as I might I can't get HAL to recognise that the device I'm attaching is one that I have given specific instructions in /usr/share/hal/fdi/95user...../mydisk.fdi and that it should be mounted under /media/disk Has anyone else had similar problems? Is there a workaround? Best wishes, Jon.

This problem has been discussed on the [opensuse] list and recently there was a post titled: "Fixed HAL -- Auto-Mounting Works" - see: http://lists.opensuse.org/archive/opensuse/2005-Oct/ and also look into the other mails/threads on that list with the keyword "automount" in the title. You need only search the archives for 2005-Oct, since SUSE 10.0 was released only in October. HTH. Shriramana.
