This is probably a stupid question but its' bugging me. I have a standard 7.3 installation. /usr/src/linux is a symbolic link to /usr/src/linux-2.4.9, yet the running kernel, according to /var/log/boot.msg, is 2.4.10-GB The only subdirectories I have in /usr/src are "linux" (link to 2.4.9), linux-2.4.9 and linux-2.4.10SuSE I did elect to install the sources during installation ( as well as the "rest of the sources" as SuSE puts it). What is going on here? Thanks David

What's the problem? Point your link to whereever you want. Sounds like the "rest of the sources is probably the 2.4.9 sources and it got installed after the 2.4.10.SuSE. No biggy. -- Mark Hounschell dmarkh@cfl.rr.com

Well, I was just wondering where 2.4.10-GB came from since there is no subdirectory in /usr/src of that name. David

Hi David,
You will probably find it in /boot/vmlinuz.version.h
(that's where it comes from in 7.2, anyway).
This whole business of different kernel versions
and version names in SuSE needs properly documenting.
It's especially confusing for users who try to install
VMWare without knowing in detail what's going on, and
how to handle it.
Volker Kuhlman has done a great job for us with his
SuSE VMWare "howto" (see the list archives), but it's
undestandable that he doesn't want to have to keep track
of later versions.
Ted.
