I've got postfix/cyrus/mysql running on my server. I can send mail to users on the server from any network box. I cannot send mail to users on the server from the server. The error I get is: May 8 08:58:14 yoda postfix/smtpd[8663]: warning: yoda.kitty.cat[192.168.0.99]: SASL LOGIN authentication failed I am running: SuSE 9.0 postfix 2.1.1 (self compiled with mysql support) cyrus (the RPM from SuSE 9.0) Here's what's odd: Kmail works fine if I specify "sendmail" as the transport. This works from any box on the network. Thunderbird works when run from any box besides the server, as long as the local box is used as the server. It will not send listing the server box as the delivery server. Thunderbird will not send from the server box to any destination, on the server, on the lan, or on the internet. It doesn't matter which box I choose as the send server. This is where I get the above errors on send. Jim,
send us the /etc/postfix/main.cf file and the /var/lib/sasl2/smtp.conf file. I'm
betting you can't authenticate through SASL to your server! When you use
sendmail you're not using smtp, but are instead injecting mail locally to
postfix. I don't know if it will help you, but look at the picture in
http://www.delouw.ch/linux/Postfix-Cyrus-Web-cyradm-HOWTO/html/tech.html. When
you use sendmail you're submitting the mail to the maildrop, whilst you're
submitting to smtpd when you use smtp. The former doesn't use authentication,
whilst the latter is using SASL.
You should also look at your SASL configuration. Are you using SASLAuthd, PAM,
LDAP? If you're using SASLAuthd, you can use the testsaslauthd tool that is part
of the cyrus-sasl distribution to verify if you can login to your server.
