It's a real English word, and hardly a neologism. (A Google search for "define:ombusman" produces 17 definitions, though many of them are pretty specific and some appear to be duplicates.) WTF is an ombudsman?
"An ombudsman (English plural: ombudsmans or ombudsmen) is an official, usually (but not always) appointed by the government or by parliament, who is charged with representing the interests of the public by investigating and addressing complaints reported by individual citizens. In some jurisdictions, the Ombudsman is referred to, at least officially, as the 'Parliamentary Commissioner' (e.g., the West Australian state Ombudsman). The word ombudsman and its specific meaning, Swedish in origin, have since been adopted in to English as well as other languages, and ombudsmen have been instituted by other governments and organizations such as the European Union. An ombudsman need not be appointed by government; they may work for a corporation, a newspaper, an NGO, or even for the general public. In some countries, an Inspector General may be the same as or have overlapping duties with a government-appointed ombudsman." WTF is an ombudsman?
This is a Swedish word, but it is borrowd and widely used in English as well (it has an entry in Websters Collegiate Dictionary). The ombudsman is the functionary in a governental or other organization to which one would address complaints or suggestions for improvement. Well, this is how mailing-lists work. Similar to a web forum - there are a lot of posts, but you don't have to read them all. Just make sure your mail program can sort openSUSE mails correctly. GMail can. 1000 emails per day is normal, you need to sort it (by using Labels), and respond -only- to mails that you're interested in. Learn how mailing-lists work. Or the email service provider, in case one uses IMAP. Of course, the likes of Pine/Alpine can effective sort also IMAP folders, moving things round etc. automatically upon entering the folder. I find it easier, though, to simply have the server filter things upon their arrival, or to use plus addressing to send stuff directly into folders.
GMail can.
GMail is quite good for a webmail, but a bit too much on the slow side, as webmails tend to be. The older version of the UI was quicker and more responsive, at least on my Firefox. Its IMAP is somewhat slow too and not too snappy. Or was at least when I last tried.
