Thanks for suggestions. Please don't let me be the instigator of a big flame war; I just want to know what people think of the "other" cards and what might be similar to ATI maybe 9200, 9600, like that. "Something" happened last night after following all the other setup steps and my system totally went down for the count: garbage screen, could not go to console, nada. Could not even boot into tex mode, init 3...all just hung up. Could not boot from DVD, CD, floppy, not even after waving a hammer at the foul thing and swearing profusely. I must assume that while the driver seemed to be installed, it was not, or at least not correctly or fully. I think I may have trashed it going back and trying to enable 3D, after being warned by the nvidia directions that it was not necessary. Finally had to do a re-install, saving what config files and /home I could. Maybe this was better anyway: got kernel sources, online updated all, make cloneconfig, make prepare-all...followed all steps. Sax2 refused to run saying there was no monitor and it seemed very mean about accepting my monitor definition, seemed to want to delete it each time I specified it. Seems to be all working now but I am a little leery of re-booting and getting another surprise. I did not see the nvidia logo at all this time. Should I be worried? Regarding the -6629 issue, my file said it was -pkg2. Is this a stable file or should I look for an earlier build and do this all again? While I have no desire now to "fix" something that appears to be working, I would rather fix it than know it is just ticking away while I sit here smiling and drooling! Again, thanks for your advice. I really do enjoy this masochism. Richard
