How to setup IRQ to certain card ?
Hi, I have older PC (P3-800). I have inserted two PCI cards (Ethernet and ISDN modem - AVM Fritz). I've disabled every HW device I don't need (USB,serial, parallel ports, etc...). I have only few interrupts taken, but both cards share same interrupt (from cat /proc/interrupts), although there are plenty other interrupts available. I wonder what are my options in this situation ? I've tried to move cards into different PCI slots, but they are not recognized by Suse 9.2. Maybe I'm doing something wrong and should do something else to acknowledge cards in different slots? Are there any other options to assign different interrupts to those cards ? Regards, Rob.

Your motherboard is probably using virtual interrupts and so it doesn't really matter if they a share an interrupt or not. If you're not having any conflicts using the cards, don't worry about. If you really want to change the interrupt anyway, move one of the cards to a different PCI slots and see what interrupt gets assigned when the system is rebooted. Sometimes you can change in this motherboard BIOS as well by assigning a particular interrupt to a PCI slot. Unless you have a legacy ISA card or a broken BIOS, you really don't need to worry about the interrupts. Christopher Reimer

That sounds odd. Are you saying that the cards are only recognised when placed in specific PCI slots??

Why do you believe you need to? Sharing a PCI interrupt is fine, unlike ISA interrupts. /Per Jessen, Zürich -- http://www.spamchek.com/freetrial - sign up for your free 30-day trial now!

I suspect you have your bios set to automatically assign interupts, as long as it all works i wouldn't worry. you could set it to assign manually, but you would have then to set them all up manually and make sure their right for each DMA's, I/O's address etc....etc (really a pain in the asss). This also includes some of the modules, I use to have to recompile these again and again to find the one that worked. If it's not broken, don't play with it. regards scsijon
