[opensuse] Audacity on 10.2
Is anyone else having problems? I have tried the version from OpenSuse () and the one from Packman () and they both fail to work, although in different ways. 1.2.4b-55 will not play back; it stutters and stalls 1.3.4-2 gives lots of tracing, including failures in pa_linux_alsa.c line 1066 and then fails to play, more error messages and the "Error while opening sound device" ==John ff -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi John, This might have something to do with an update. It was working fine the last time I checked... probably a couple of months ago... but now it's segfaulting. :-/ I don't have time to mess with it today but I'll look into it this week and let you know what I find, if anything. regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes, on a new install today 1.3.4-2 gave these messages - perhaps something to do with portaudio? OK everyone :-) . As someone very recently stated, if you want help then please specify your OS. I am running v10.2, 32-bit, and I have Audacity 1.3.4-Beta installed (in the normal process of being upgraded by smart). What I have is working without a hassle. So, where does 1.3.4-2, mentioned above, come from? Is it a 64-bit version? And if it is a 32-bit version, why don't I have it! :-) . Ah, of course... I'm also on 32-bit 10.2. My previously working but now broken Audacity version claims to be 1.3.3-beta in the status bar when it's loading. It crashes when I try Help -> About :-) I'll try updating to 1.3.4-Beta (and maybe 1.3.4-2 if your question gets answered.) Okay, I updated to 1.3.4-2.pm.beta and it's segfaulting at launch, now. BTW, libSoundTouch had to be downgraded before the package would install. Audacity had been crashing once before because of bug in wxGTK. Thanks for the info, Pavol. I'll try downgrading before I have a real need to use the package! ;-) regards, Carl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have soundtouch 1.3.1-0.pm installed and 1.3.1-5.2 is nowhere to be seen - ie it did not have to be 'downgraded' because it wasn't installed to begin with. Funny things, computers :-) . The 64bit versions of Audacity have a different collection of problems, which I may get to later. I tried installing from sources but got the say problems (well actually I had to disable FLAC before it would compile). This is a real pain for me as it is messing the flow of my lectures. This morning I reinstalled Portaudio, but that made no differences either. ==John ffitch -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

My copy of audacity comes from either of these sources (I use smart to do all my updates): ftp://packman.unixheads.com/suse/10.2/i586/ or http://packman.mirrors.skynet.be/pub/packman/suse/10.2/i586/ No compilation, or disabling 'anything', was done here - smart just simply updated everything without a fuss. That seems like a solution to my problems except I do not know HOW to upgrade my laptop to 10.3. It worked quite well. If you have a decent Internet connection, I would recommend it.
