Hi, I've checked the recent archives and have not found an answer to this. I've been using Mathematica 4.1 on SuSE 6.4 for many, many months without problems. I recently acquired a new PC (Dell Optiplex GX240) and installed 7.3 (no problems). Since moving to 7.3, when Mathematica launches I get an error: The Mathematica fonts are not properly installed in your system. Without these fonts, typeset mathematical expressions cannot be displayed properly. (I also used to get the delete-next-character errors, but I have fixed that now.) Clicking on continue, I manage to get into Mathematica and it seems usable, but I fear that some font substitions are taking place that are going to be problematic when I start using mathematica in earnest (having only recently installed I am still ironing out various wrinkles). I suspect the problem lies with the new XFree 4.1 (in 6.4 I was using XFree 3.xx), but other than that am clueless as to how to solve the problem. If anyone has encountered this problem, or knows of a fix, I'd be very grateful to hear from them. I had font problems in SuSE 7.0. If I recall correctly this is the fix: http://support.wolfram.com/mathematica/systems/linux/interface/fontscale.htm... You may want to consider using MuPad or YaCaS. Mupad is a symbollic algebra programme that comes with SuSE 7.3 Pro. You can download it from here: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/7.3/suse/xap3 look for mupad.rpm Another alternative is to install YaCaS. This is GPL and works quite well: http://www.xs4all.nl/~apinkus/infoindex.html

I see the warning too but I haven't had any problem with fonts in Mathematica yet. I have a problem with notebooks saved into a PostScript file. If I use "psnup -2 nb.ps > nb_2.ps" to put two logical pages on one physical page then fonts on the second logical page are not OK. (The nb.ps file is printed and displayed correctly). I think it's rather related to the structure of the PS file than to the warning about fonts. Anyway, I've reported both problems to the Mathematica support (via a local reseller) and I'm waiting for an answer. -- Alexandr.Malusek@imv.liu.se
