OK, this is starting to annoy me. I've got Gaim installed and working fine (in SuSE9.0). The annoying thing is that when it's running, it pops open at random. No one I have in my list is currently online, yet Gaim (running in the background, and shows up as an icon in the Kicker panel) keeps opening up and taking priority over whatever app I'm working in. Anyone have this happening? Know how to make it stop popping up? I can't find the option that makes it do this. I don't mind if it pops up when there is an event, but... when nothing is going on... ??? C.

Check all the notification options - Gaim can pop up on various different events so ensure that they're all disabled. Other than that, I can't help, I'm afraid. Yah, I tried that... all are off. I'm trying out Kopete right now. It seems much better behaved... then again, no one is online in Canada yet ;-P I'll know for sure if I like it once someone starts a chat session. C.

C. FWIW, I had very poor luck w/GAIM but Kopete seems to be just fine. I don't use it much, but have had absolutely no issues with it. -- ...CH Avoid doing business with 'The Link' ISP. SuSE Is All U Need Linux user# 313696 Linux box# 199365

I wouldn't use it much either, but it's handy for quick tech support to my parents business and help with their website ;-) Good to know that it works. I have to say it's behaving much better, but I'm not too keen on the chat window. Oh well, can't have it all <grin> C.

Have you tried it with Yahoo? Many have suffered real reliability problems running anything but Yahoo's own "Unix" app -- apparently because Yahoo keeps changing things to keep it that way. In my experience it is the only app that works reliably with Yahoo under Linux. -- dmc ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Your journey with God continues here ... I am fully able to reliably reproduce your problem with gaim 0.75. Here is how it can be reproduced with no one going online/offline and nothing in gaim set to make it popup: K menu -> Control Center -> Desktop -> Taskbar Then toggle ANY setting on that panel and gaim will popup when you hit "Apply" even when nothing told it to do that and no other program pops up as a result. I've had this popup thing occur even when not even in the control center but in other apps, but I couldn't remember exactly what I was doing at the time when this occurs and haven't been able to figure out how to get gaim to not popup. Also, if any of you have the jabber client named "psi" installed, you can cause gaim to popup by changing a setting in that program. In its "Options," and in the "Application" section, toggle the "Enable docklet" option then hit "Apply" and gaim pops up when you do that also. Why it does is beyond me.
