Sorry, Fred, I don't have a 64-bit system but......isn't k9copy not a *burner* application? I've been using k9copy to shrink DVD's for a while now and aside from a crash here and there for odd reasons that usually get fixed in the next updates, I don't have any problems. Sounds like 11.2 is having a problem w/ your drive?

If you read closely Fred's original message, he is talking about "*burning* DVD's". My response was that k9copy does not *burn* DVDs but copies them. k3b is the app. which actually does the burning (if selected to do so in k9copy). (I am running k9copy successfully in 11.2.) I understand that, but if all those programs he's trying lock up the machine, then something surely isn't right. I see DVD95 uses k3b. "Good thinking, Number 99!" :-) I always copy a DVD to the HD, check that it actually works, and then burn it to a disc. So, if Fred is using k9 *and* something like k3b together then I understand his concern. But as individual applications, used by themselves, neither k9 nor k3 are causing *me* any problems. If it's a k9copy using k3b problem using brasero will at least prove that's what the problem is. I found out about brasero when I started using k9copy and I prefer it for simple image to dvd burning as it's much less resource hungry than k3b. I use k3b for more complicated dvd burning. I'm running the 64-bit version of k9copy without problems on my laptop. Perhaps Fred forgot to install some needed codecs after installing 11.2.
NOT a chance. ;) In one case, I found a corrupted file, libxine. 'Still working on others. If one can locate xcdroast, it'll work, but it's an arcane non-intuitive interface and last I saw only in alpha. I've always had reliable results except when the burn media was garbage.
I don't think we can even get it compiled for 11.2 now. Here again, the problem is with whatever application K9copy, and all others use to read the DVD and compress the files. I'm not sure what is used, therefore I'm not sure what is causing it......on some systems anyway. I have found 6 'puters with different hardware that ALL have the same problem. I know some systems don't have this problem, but there are many that do. ALL I've tested are 64-bit.
Bad library file problem then? xcdroast uses the native burning library, which would be wodim at this point. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

There have been some subtle changes in the behaviour of the wodim CLI command in later versions of wodim which could trip up any unmodified front ends making use of it. Caught me out in some scripts I am working on, but as I am not sure whether some of these were related to local hardware changes I have not followed up on this, except to modify relevant scripts, and it was fairly easy to fix once problem was identified. The best way to isolate issue is use CLI wodim and related tools to check for basic functionality, then check the GUI bits. - -- ============================================================================== I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone. Has anyone else run into the problem of burning DVD's? K9copy, Dvd95, and XDVDShrink - ALL - lock up the system tighter than a crabs butt - on ALL systems I've tried it on!! All boxen are 64-bit and updated 11.2. ALL have codecs and libdvdcss.

In this scenario I would first look at basic drive functionality with wodim. The --scanbus and --devices switches are useful here. i.e use... wodim --devices at the command line. Then a wodim dev=<device id> -prcap using the devices designation returned by the --devices version of the command. This would help identify whether there is a low level issue, or a problem with one of the drivers common to those apps. Also one thing which usually causes a bit of grief is having DVD/CD automounting enabled when copying or burning DVD/CD images. Make sure this feature is disabled. - -- ============================================================================== I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
