Dear all, I'm trying to set up Ximian Desktop properly as KDE doesn't seem to like the Citrix seamless windows and crashes citrix connections (if anyone knows about this let me know!) So anyway, I'm rather puzzled by a couple of things ... 1. where is the screensaver control - the cc doesn't seem to have anything on it 2. why do all the fonts look bigger than in kde even more so for kde applications? and how to manage it. (just choosing smaller fonts in kde doesn't do the trick as they become unreadable there!) 3. how to mount cd / dvd on the desktop? if i run something like xmms it reads the cd but trying to right-click and add it to the desktop won't work (gives mounting error) and the file manager also doesn't seem to want to open this device. 4. talking thereof - is there any chance of watching dvd's on ximin? many thanks! j. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Don't know about Ximian's version, but the normal Gnome2 desktop does have a Screensaver control in the Control Center.

This has come up on the list before, I think - try searching the archives.

You don't mount audio CDs - under KDE or Gnome. If you're just wanting to play them, you've managed that. If you want to rip them, run Grip or something like that. If you want to mount data CDs and DVDs, what exactly is the error you're getting?

Use whatever app you use under KDE - MPlayer, xine, ogle... HTH John -- John Pettigrew Headstrong Games john@headstrong-games.co.uk Fun : Strategy : Price http://www.headstrong-games.co.uk/ Board games that won't break the bank Fields of Valour: 2 Norse clans battle on one of 3 different boards

well - i'm pretty sure it doesn't exist. how do you set it up manually?

i've searched but the problem isn't the same. as far as i can see people complained that some fonts are too small in gnome, while exactly the opposite is true in ximian.
3. how to mount cd / dvd on the desktop? if i run something like xmms it
trying to mount CD/ DVD in ximian gives Couldn't find "automount:///media/dvd". Please check the spelling and try again. any ideas what to do?
4. talking thereof - is there any chance of watching dvd's on ximin?

well that doesn't work either. i get -Xine engine error:There is no input plugin available to handle dvd:/. Maybe MRL syntax is wrong or file/stream source doesn't exist. ideas? thanks, j.

Can't help, I'm afraid - does Ximian offer support or FAQs for this sort of thing?

But would the same solution work (setting the dpi, IIRC)? The values might differ, but the technique could still work.

Aha. Try just doing "mount /media/dvd" from a terminal. If that works, then you know it *should* work from the desktop. Then, try opening /media in nautilus and mount the dvd from there. This should show that nautilus is not at fault. That narrows it down just to this "automount://" thing, which isn't a Gnome standard AFAIK. You might need to ask at ximian again to resolve it.

From the sound of this, it seems that various Ximian-specific things aren't set up properly on your system. But I've never used Ximian (I've stuck with
How are you launching this? Try just running xine from a terminal, them accessing the DVD from there (pressing the DVD button in Xine's controller). the SuSE-supplied Gnome2 desktop, which is pretty good). Perhaps someone else here with experience in that are could help... xscreensaver should do it from terminal. Oh its scheduled to be fixed in the next Control Center update.

I am not too sure to be honest, have you tried the Ximian support site? Also personal settings for themes/fonts? <snipped> Just for reference, here are some bugzilla reports. Some have fixes in them: http://bugzilla.ximian.com/show_bug.cgi?id=44575 This one will work around an issue with xcsreensaver lockup http://bugzilla.ximian.com/show_bug.cgi?id=44573 Final one will be fixed in a control center revision. Hope that helps! Matt
