If I install a second version on a spare partition then my mbr is set to the fresh installed grub. Is there an option in the install procedure "DON"T touch the MBR" ? Not necessarily. It's usually unnecessary to have non-standard boot code in the MBR, and so doesn't always happen automatically.

Something like that. Just uncheck the MBR box and check the / filesystem box on the where to install bootloader screen. http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Prefered_bootloader_options -- No Jesus - No peace , Know Jesus - Know Peace Team OS/2 ** Reg. Yes, tell yast to not touch the mbr and install grub on the root partition (or /boot) of your new install. Then, on the old install, you chain load the new grub - for example: title Test D: Factory root (hd0,7) configfile /boot/grub/menu.lst You can also add on the main grub entries to boot the second linux; just remember that Yast will not automatically updated those when the kernel is updated. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
