[opensuse] Swiftfox: opinions?
Are there any Swiftfox users out there? Is there a noticeable difference from Firefox? Here's the site: http://getswiftfox.com/download.htm I have an Intel DuoCore 2 processor, would that be a Prescott for purposes of the app? I'm not a user but I seriously doubt that it makes a difference. The patch which is available as "source code" is here: http://getswiftfox.com/source/swiftfox-3.6.3.patch So codewise there is basically _no_ difference. Those are only preferences you can change in Firefox as well. I cannot see the buildoptions frome here but in case you install it you could help us and post them here: about:buildconfig The amount of patches in openSUSE's Firefox is much higher but we _only_ optimize for i586/x86-64. Feel free to discuss with compiler people if it makes a difference. And if you try it please report back if you see performance wins. Swiftfox is supposed to be compiled differently, same code.

_This_ is interesting, and may be taken into account when purchasing hardware. -- Dotan Cohen http://bido.com http://what-is-what.com -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=27463 is one example of a Prescott. AFAICT, all Prescotts are Hyperthreading and not dual core. My Cedar Mills are newer, and also Hyperthreading and not dual core. cat /proc/cpuinfo might lead one to believe such a CPU is dual core, but it isn't. e.g. one of my Cedar Mills shows family 15 model 6 stepping 5 on "both" processor 0 and 1. IIRC, the first family subsequent to Cedar Mills were the first dual cores from Intel. -- "Suppos [sic] a nation in some distant region, should take the Bible for their only law book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited. . . .
