Hi folks . I have an Huawei E220 that i would like to use under 11.1 but i can find no info on just how to set it up all i can find is Linux systems with kernel 2.6.20 and higher should work plug-and-play with HUAWEI E220. well being as this is 11.1 with a kernel version of 2.6.27.7-9-default it is supposed to work but how do i get it to connect so far the information on this is very poor Pete. -- SuSE Linux 10.3-Alpha3. I used this modem with openSuSE 11.0 with no problem, but I haven't tried with 11.1 Use yast to configure your modem, then connect using knetworkmanager. Alternatively you could use wvdial. -- Bogdan Cristea -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

At leasti am not the only one then which is a little anoying because i wanted this to work for next weekend i will be out in Wales and it would save me a bit of hassle having internet access out in the wilds . Cheers time to play and see if anyone else is having problems with it there's got to be more than 2 of us .. BTW did you look at /var/log/messages straight after attempting to dial i wound up with a kernel oops after every attempt .. Pete . -- SuSE Linux 10.3-Alpha3. Yesterday I have only tried with knetworkmanager to connect and immediately gives up. Today I have noticed that I am able to connect to my modem using minicom. With wvdial it seems that the modem is able to connect, but it does not find /etc/resolv.conf. Here are the last lines: --> local IP address 93.122.254.182 --> pppd: [7f] --> remote IP address 10.64.64.64 --> pppd: [7f] --> primary DNS address 62.217.193.1 --> pppd: [7f] --> secondary DNS address 62.217.193.65 --> pppd: [7f] --> Script /etc/ppp/ip-up run successful --> Default route Ok. --> warning, no nameserver found `/etc/resolv.conf` --> Nameserver (DNS) failure, the connection may not work. --> Connected... Press Ctrl-C to disconnect --> pppd: [7f] And I don't see any kernel oops after this attempt. The output of 'dmesg | tail' wlan0: associated wlan0: disassociating by local choice (reason=3) PPP generic driver version 2.4.2 PPP BSD Compression module registered PPP Deflate Compression module registered My guess is that the problem is /etc/resolv.conf file. If you would be able to restore that file it should work. Well to reply to my own message it now works but i have to enter the DNS by hand into /etc/resolv.conf i have knocked up a quick script to move verious forms of resolv.conf for the 3G connection all i need to do now is detect when the 3G dongle is unpluged and use that to reset the DNS for the connection here at home Cheers Pete . -- SuSE Linux 10.3-Alpha3. Hi, I also have a HUWAEI E226, worked just out of the box in 11.0 with knetworkmanager, but with 11.1 don't. But in 11.1 the problem is kentworkmanager, it tries to use /dev/ttyUSB1 when it should use /dev/ttyUSB0 (we should start a bug report), but as you said, you can use anohter front ends to dial, I use kppp. The problem of the dns is know bug of pppd, there is a patch, but if you don't want to complicate kppp has a option to put the dns servers manually so you don't have to write them in /etc/resolv.conf every time. rgds. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi . I found that after i installed the packages that r.trev mentioned it worked in 11.1 just the DNS problem now where would i find the patch for pppd i would be interested in recompiling pppd to suit to save the extra steps . I have tried with knetworkmanager but it just bombs out so gave up on it one of these days someone will get what is after all an fairly important package "knetworkmanager" running on KDE4.x.x Pete . -- SuSE Linux 10.3-Alpha3.
