Hello everyone: Has anyone heard or used a new software package called: skype Details and download information (including a Linux flavor) can be found at: www.skype.com/download.html Someone suggested that Skype is better than MSN (not a big leap needed there ;-) and Kopete. I haven't tried it so I can't comment. just wondering if anyone has made the plunge. Cheers, Mike

Skype works perfectly on several of my Linux boxes and also on a couple windows boxes. SuSE 8.2 and 9.1. Windows 98 and XP. (Shucks, it even works in a Windows VMware virtual machine running on a linux Host!) It uses the firewall piercing scheme so that you never have to mess with your firewall to get it to work. (Well almost never). Crystal clear voice coms, good IM client, and File transfer. -- _____________________________________ John Andersen
I've been using it alot. Works really good. I've even done three-way group calls from Sweden to Australia to USA. Great sound. This is made more for voice comunication than the other IM tools. Regards, Erik On Sat, 2004-08-28 at 11:20, Mike Roy wrote:

I found/installed it and it locked up whenever I attempted to add someone to call to the internal list. This happened two out of two times. I dumped it. -- ..."Yogi" CH Namasté Yoga Studio "If music be the food of love, why can't rabbits sing?"

I did have some problems with broken up audio from my brother and to another guy in the USA. My brother upgraded his XP firewall and that cured it, I suppose the other guy did same also. The other guy had a problem on his Linux box with no audio out, cured when I talked him through his mixer settings. My brother subscribed to the pre-pay service, but under the old XP firewall, he couldn't dial numbers and I forgot to ask him if that's also fixed. Has anyone used that Service successfully under Linux? Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce .... Hamradio G3VBV and keen Flyer =====LINUX ONLY USED HERE=====
I've used the Windows XP client and it works great. I
called a friend who was on 56K dialup (I have Comcast
cable) and the conversation was flawless. Like he was
in the next room.
