Hello, all you helpful ones, I am having trouble with a modem of the Intel 536ep chipset. It worked perfectly with 8.2, but with 9.0 a strange problem has arisen. It dials fine, but a few seconds afterward (during the high pitched wailing) it disconnects and dials again. This time, it disconnects after only dialing the first for or five digits. It then clicks on and off, on and off, on and off, until I stop it. The telephone then rings; when I pick it up, there is nothing but a high pitched note. The modem still works good in Windo$ (I am the troublesome one there) so I don't think it could be a problem with the hardware. Has anyone else had a problem like this? I would love some help. ~ maybe ~ if you have a file /etc/wvdial.conf you could re-name it and then try executing :- /usr/bin/wvdialconf ~ believe wvdial has pretty good heuristics :) -- best wishes ____________ sent on Linux ____________

It doesn't detect the modem. The thing was supposed to be a hardware modem, but as it requires a package, I am starting to wonder... Matthew Marshall

There is an article in the SDB (support data base) about this issue: http://portal.suse.com/sdb/en/2003/10/thallma_90_nocarrier.html Greetings from Bremen hartmut

That solved it! Thanks! The SUSE Portal was one of the first places that I looked for an answer... I wonder why I didn't see that? Matthew Marshall
