[opensuse] Identifying what device the USB headset is connected to?
I want to redirect sound from certain apps to a USB headset (and these apps are expecting something in the form of /dev/dsp1 or something similar). What is the best way to ideantify what device the USB headset is attached to? I'm still looking for an answer to this question. I haven't yet been able to find out how to dig up what device node the USB headset is. Try this for a scenario... I have a SBlaster and a Logitech USB Headset. Both sound devices work, and in apps that allow easy selection of which audio device I want to use, I have no issues switching back and forth as needed. But... what do you do if you want to redirect all sound from... say... Firefox to the USB headset, but leave the regular system sounds and media players like Amarok? How do you tell Firefox to use the USB sound device, and... how do you tell what /dev/dspX the USB headset is connected to? Or.. for that matter, are the USB sound devices actually connected to /dev/dspX? Here on 10.3 my logitech headset is connected to /dev/dsp1 when plugged in (/dev/dsp is the on-board sound chip). The device gets created when I plug in the headset, so could you unplug and replug the headset and check the creation time for the devices? Not ideal but it should work. I would guess there is a more general way, but I don't know what that is. Hope this helps. -- Don -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It's a good start for him, the other way that some apps do it is hardware#:#, though I have seem only one KMIX, actually use USB Headset as a reference. What he wants to do, is something that still stumps me. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
