You need to remove the comment "#" at the beginning of the line for the value to be used.
Of course :-)
----- snip---- Ken or Carlos or anyone else, Can you please tell me where I would find this cups file to edit. I tried the Control Center. No Joy. I also tried: http://localhost:631/printers I then looked in /etc/cups/ I am sure I am missing something. I saw several files, including "cupsd.conf" which looked promising. But when I went into the file, I wasn't sure. So if I want to "PreserveJobFiles No" where (or how) do I do it ??? __________________________________________________________________ McAfee VirusScan Online from the Netscape Network. You need to look harder. It _is_ in '/etc/cups/cupsd.conf'. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org

No, it depends on the file in question, not the other way round.
I then looked in /etc/cups/
Yes!

Well, that's the file, /etc/cups/cupsd.conf. You have to open it up with any editor you fill confortable (as root - make a backup copy just in case), and you will see the line somewhere; just search for "PreserveJobFiles" and you will see it: # PreserveJobFiles: whether or not to preserve the job files after a # job is completed, cancelled, or stopped. Default is No. # #PreserveJobFiles No Remove the '#' in front (it means that it is commented out, thus ignored by the program), and save. Then run "rcups reload" (or restart) to enable. This method is typical of many linux programs: each has it's own text config file or files. In this case, the change should be useless, because the doc says that the default is "no", and that is what we want. Mmm... now that I think, if a job is paused, can it be restarted, or is the job deleted? -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
