I have a new issue with smart on opensuse 10.0: I cannot do an update, install, or even a fix. It loads and updates the cache. But after it prints "Computing transaction...", the program hangs. If I look at the python process, it is doing occasional mmap2 and brk calls. Nothing else. I had hoped that 'fix' would do as it says. It hangs. 'clean' runs, but nothing is different. I have installed: smart-0.51-11.guru.suse100 -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems / Ramböll RST Ramböll Sverige AB Kapellgränd 7 P.O. I too had the same issue on openSUSE 10.2 and SLED. I too was unabloe
to sole the problem. I think that we do need an UPDATE or a PATCH for
that thing.
Thanks

Did not work. (used /var/lib/smart/cache, not /var/lib/cache, which does not exist)
do smart udate or smart upgrade --update
No joy here, either. BTW, seems the --update option to upgrade does what the upgrade command does. I think I need to try a newer version of smart. Not the guru version, which seems long in the tooth.
everything will be regenerated

I tried the latest (smart-0.52-6.2) and the behavior is the same. I let it run all night (smart update) and it never got past the "Computing transaction..." text. So, I wonder if there is some python thing smart uses that has or has not been updated on my system. maybe it is not a problem with smart, but your rpm db. try: rpmdb --rebuilddb then: smart upgrade --update - -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.4-svn4472 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFHOaTBClSjbQz1U5oRAmhVAJoD81z/B5Zp5SvITJTyMpgYSIxsRACfS8+A Oh+l8UGr422+KZIv/J3eYY0= =sE9b -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

try: rpmdb --rebuilddb
I did that earlier (or actually 'rpm --rebuilddb', which must be the same thing) . It made no difference. And YasT is able to work properly, as well as various rpm query commands.
then: smart upgrade --update

then debug smart by disabling all the repositories but oss, non-oss and rpm-sys, delete: /var/lib/smart/channels and /var/lib/smart/cache then: smart upgrade --update if that doesn't work, I don't know. It it does, add back one repository at a time repeating the other steps until a failure. You will have discovered the problem. please advise and, PLEASE trimm your quotes. tks, - -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.4-svn4472 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFHOapxClSjbQz1U5oRApn/AJ9oy2HSOb2ggdABrtyxjoyru+d6YACfTUsO KB4M3eufjML5Ma4LrqyKLqI= =AE+s -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I had a repository for MONDO Rescue from the MONDO web site. Seems having that caused the problem. I can't guess what info MONDO provides that so confuses smart. But this seems to be what happens. Now that smart is working again, I need to see where some of the suse repositories for 10.0 have moved. A few are no longer working - update can't get the info it needs. But that is simple web work. -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems / Ramböll RST Ramböll Sverige AB Kapellgränd 7 P.O. Well. I thought that would be done as usual. Nope. SMART seems to want to look for a gzipped 'packages' file, while there is only a plain text file in the directory. I get this error. It is added to smart as a yast2 repository. error: Failed acquiring information for 'SUSE 10.0 Java Repository': error: http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/SL-10.0-OSS/inst-source-java/suse/...: Not Found There are a few other repositories that I have this issue with. Maybe I should not add them as yast2? I am running smart 0.52. I see that on my 10.3 GM dvd (nothing to do with this problem - just a comparison to a repository I have locally) the packages files are zipped. So shouldn't they be so on the web as well? Or should smart be looking for both versions? What am I doing wrong? -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems / Ramböll RST Ramböll Sverige AB Kapellgränd 7 P.O.
