John,
Why don't you boot the PC from a rescue disk, make a backup of some kind
(on CD or on a different HD or partition) then re-install SuSE 8.0 from
scratch? I use SuSE since version 7 and the repair/update never worked
100%.
Regards,
Sandor

I wonder if any body could please give me some advice, I have SuSE 8, and
via the system disk I can boot up from the hard disk but when I try to go
into Yast it just hangs, I know on version 9.2 I can run yast repair from
the CD to check and replace damaged system files or re-install missing
files, is there any way that I can perform a system check and perform the
same sort operation on version 8. I have been through the manual but it
only offers mounting the files system via rescue cd which I can do any
way, any help would be greatly appreciated John Proctor.
Ps I have been trying to solve this problem for over two weeks but with no
success.
