Re: [SLE] Re:%20[SLE]%20kernel%20for%20SCSI%20scanner
if you follow as it says in the Suse manual and use earth:/usr//src/linux/ # make zlilo than everything is sorted out. it will run the lilo keep a copy of the old one also. BTW when you installed suse you already have one with suse default. this is if you use lilo for other refer to the manual "S.P.Sheriff" wrote:
Hi Alex, Hi everyone.
Looks like I do have to recompile the kernel then. What about keeping the old one just in case?

I would just like to expand on this. The SuSE manual is very clear about it, but... First, when you try to make zlilo, you will find that the kernel is too big. The sequence I use successfully is: make bzlilo # Build and install the kernel make modules # make the modules make modules_install # install the modules. Note that bzlilo renames the current kernel in /boot, and copies the new kernel to /boot. What I normally do is to keep a pristine kernel in /boot (/boot/vmlinux.ok). Don't forget your /boot/System.map also. make sure you set up your lilo.conf to boot these kernels. This way if you build your kernel successfully, but it causes a problem, and you make another bad kernel, you still have a bootable kernel on disk. However, always make sure you have a bootable diskette. Using this technique you won't paint yourself into a corner. On 15 Mar 00, at 21:45, Togan Muftuoglu wrote:
