issues using USB 2.0 DVD writer
Hello! I could borrow DVD rewriter: a NEC ND-1300A in a laCie USB 2.0 box. When I try to write a disk (multiple attempts with +RW's and one with a +R), it randomly fails during the writing. The "SK=6h/ASC=29h/ACQ=00h" part of the error is always the same one. This happens using a 9.1 SuSE installation. I just disabled the integrated USB 1 of the motherboard (nforce) to avoid any conflict. I then received "not an MMC unit" error issued by growisofs. Now, k3b doesn't see the drive anymore but sees one of my other drives twice. Maybe it will go better after next restart... Any hint what all this could be caused by? How do I make sure the USB 2.0 adapter is perfectly installed and supported? TIA for your help!! I first upgraded to 9.2 in the hope it would solve that issue. Not at all, it seems now worse. I now understand by reading the news page of k3b.org the that the problems I have are due to kernel issues: 2.6.8 and 2.6.9 are not good to write DVD's on my drive. Now, if I compile my own kernel, what do I lose (security patches, special features by SuSE, ...)? Any other suggestion? TIA!! Patrick
